*The Verge of War* A Medieval Rp

"Oh." Gwen wasn't sure what else to say. "Shall we dance?"

"The queen has been rather busy and the king is constantly locked in his study." Peter said with a shrug. "Not that they have ever paid much attention to me. Obviously their focus would be on Edwin."

Alena sat nervously on the edge of Edwin's bed. She quietly picked at the wrinkles in the sheets.

Edmund nodded assent.

"Of course. As it should be. Has there been anything new, do you think, on the contract of Edwin and Gwen's marriage?" Linnet asked.

William heard 'Edwin and Gwen' from the other end of the porch. It was more than likely that the couple were referring to the prince and princess. Princess Gwen would be nearly eighteen or nineteen now; the last time he had seen her was when she was hardly more than a child. It would be interesting to see her now, and he very likely would, now that he was residing at Alnwick castle.

"How are you feeling?" Edwin asked for the hundredth time.

Gwen awkwardly took his hand, and placed her hand on his shoulder. "How have things been for you? She asked trying the clear the silence.

(hehe I see what you did there you little sneak)

Alena shrugged. "I'm just worried. You should go."

"Good. Well, good enough," Edmund replied. "How has your father been?" He asked, seemingly a random question, but he had a question intended to follow it that would make sense.

(Haha yeah you )

(I think you missed the LinnetXPeter section)

"Please, don't worry about me. I'll go when I'm ready. But I need to know what happened to you," Edwin said. "When I saw you before you left you seemed perfectly fine."

Gwen frowned. The king had been dangerously ill lately, but his advisors had been keeping it a secret. Not wanting to lie, she settled for a half truth. "I haven't seen him much recently." She replied with what she hoped was a casual tone.

Peter was quiet for a moment. "I-he-we....I haven't seen Edwin recently, he is always away. I dont know how far things have progressed. As far as I know, he is with his maid." He joked.

"I don't know Edwin. Honestly. I've been trying to recount it." Alena said desperate and on the verge of tears. "I'm scared. What if your mother did this?"

(We need a king. Or we can simply and conveniently have him die XD)

"Does he not come down to dine with you and your sisters?" Edmund asked, concern showing on his face. He hadn't been in the king's presence for more than a few minutes in several weeks and hadn't seen the queen much more than that.

"His maid?" Linnet questioned, wide eyed with worry. This was new information, and probably something she should be concerned about for Gwen's sake if not the entire kingdom's.
William had tuned in on their conversation, as much as he tried not to, and was now listening quietly and intently.

Edwin took Alena's hand in his. "What do you think she did? What happened?"

(Moment of suspense for everyone XD )

Gwen gave a noncommittal shrug. "He is a busy man."

Peter's eyes went wide. He hadn't meant to mention it. "I'm likely mistaken." He said hurriedly.

"Well, I suppose he should be. He is king," Edmund gave a quiet chuckle. After a pause of silence, he said, "I do not mean to pry, Princess, but how are things between you and the prince? I have only heard minor technical things with the treaty, but beyond that I am most ignorant."

Linnet wasn't quick to believe that. "I'll accept that explaination for now, but I hope you'll keep me updated on 'the maid'," she replied. "I heard that the queen has a lady-in-waiting recently come. Is this true?"
