Santa just brought my boys the same heater! They insist on sleeping in their pond, it frozer over and they were NOT happy. Actually I was not happy either, I had to use a pick to break the 6" of ice off it. And I'm not going to through that every few days. It has worked out really well. It has been sub zero here and not so much as an ice crystal in their pond. I too was worried about singeing little duck toes. I thought about getting a collendar or something to cover it, but decided against it. I will keep a close eye on them.
