Are there many people out there from the east coast that are sharing in this gray, rainy "summer"?

I'm in western MA. My garden won't grow because there is not enough sunshine and warmth.

The rain fall total is up and the average temps are down at least 10 degrees. The local paper did a piece on local farmers that hope they can salvage at least 60% of their crops. The farmers are all suffering.

The local feed and grain stores are having a hard time getting hay because it won't grow at the local farms. The rest of the country is hot and sunny. Why can't the east cost share in some of that?

We had been in a bad drought in the SE for a few years, and I am so grateful for the return of nearly daily showers. Our pond was dry last year and is several feet deep now, with fish and turtles prospering. I watered trees and bushes last year til I thought the well pump would burn out. They are growing like crazy this year. And it looks like the farmers who plant corn without irrigation are going to get a crop, for a change.

It is a balance, I guess.

In NE Washington, we are being treated to a thunder and lightening show. I am watching it from the top floor of our three story house.

We live in the Pend Oreille River Valley created by the Selkirk Mountains on the west and Something Ridge on the east (havent' been here long enough to remember the name of the ridge).

The lightening is spectacular, the thunder is LOUD and the rain and hail is drumming on the roof.

We have had a lot of rain and thunderstorms this summer. Apparently it is unusual.

And by the time my garden starts to grow we'll have the fall frost that will kill all the plants!

Oh gosh, i hate to say it, but out here in California, we're having a cool spell that is really a blessing. Rained yesterday, just a bit, but it was loverly. Normally this time of year we are roasting, so it's a treat to enjoy some cool breezes. i know it won't last. Come August and September, when the State Fair comes to town, our heads will be on fire. So i am enjoying this cool spell for the short time it lasts.

It has been much cooler than normal here in eastern NC, usually in July it's hot and muggy. Last weekend we had the AC off and the windows open. The rain has been hit or miss.
