What is the genetic difference between barred & cuckoo? Is there one?
Cuckoo has a sex-linked pattern of inheritance on the Z chromosome. The symbol for the gene is "B". B is dominant over non-cuckoo which is symbolized by "b+". Cuckoo is expressed phenotypically as a white baring pattern against a background that is some shade of red or black.

Autosomal (nonsex-linked) barring is caused by a combination of genes that interact to create a pattern. Hopefully someone else will jump in who can explain it in more detail!

Ok, so which one are barred rocks? Are they different from, say, cuckoo marans, in that way?

on barred rocks the barring is even and in line while on cuckoo (and dominques) the pattern is staggered and blochy (or at lest to me it is)
