The sun streamed through the hole in the tree hollow where Kiko was sleeping. He woke up and climbed out onto a limb where he had a yawn and a good stretch. The morning was frigid, but beautiful.

Luke noticed Kiko woke up, but he felt like sleeping some more.

Soon he came upon an aspen grove where he heard a curious tapping noise.

”Aha! That’s what I’m after!” He said delightedly.

It was a Three-toed Woodpecker, busily drilling sap holes in a tree. Kiko climbed halfway up the trunk and started collecting the sweet, spicy sap icicles that had formed overnight.
