The worst kind of predator

Aww poor Matilda. I'd keep her in that cage for a bit longer so she could heal. My Pearl injured her leg jumping from a roost and did a FAIL. When I let them all out to forage she would sit on the ground and peck at things, get up a little & limp over to another spot and do the same thing. Her buddy Ruby would hang with her so she wouldn't be lonely.

I think it was 3 weeks or so until she was able to use her leg like normal. I would put some crushed aspirin in her water, that seemed to help her.

Good luck with your bird, I hope she'll be all right. Any more ideas on the mystery pred?

So glad there's a great neighbor in the mix! And that Matilda seems to be rebounding from her little setback. Hoping for smooth sailing from here forward.....

Update on Matilda. Her recovery seems to have slowed. She is still living in the hospital cage. She can stand but walks with a limp and she sometimes holds her right wing out and pointing down. The injury is on the right side. She eats and drinks very well and seems bright eyed. I still think this is injury realated and not a disease. She shows no signs of paralysis, just soreness. Poops fine, etc. Why do people have to cause these things? I really do hope that Rodney flogged whoever it was. And any trespassers that get in my coop have been warned. I have a sign.

You'll definately know it's a human when that sign goes missing! LOL I want one!

My guinea kristina suffered a similar attack. She couldn't walk for about a week, and then she passed away. But her attack was severe. Blood ran all the way down her back.

Glad to hear Matilda is on the mend. Posting a sign within reasonable view on your property in my state says that you can call the local authorities if you have anyone messing around your property. Hate to appear standoffish but they are your birds. I have a 'sign' on a scrap piece of wood written in sharpie. Your sign is much better!

Awww, Jody - I hope she's feeling better soon. I know when BJ roo injured his leg (not an attack - not sure what happened) it was a good couple weeks before I saw signs of improvement. I restricted his activity, gave him aspirin water, and hand fed him a lot.
Keep us posted.
