The wrong roost

Mistake - eek! Went down on night 2 to spy in on the sleeping chickens and there they were, huddled in the corner and not on the roost!

Of course this brought us to the web for some additional research, and I'm sure this is because we put in a dowel that is too small - 1/2" - 3/4" . We used it because we had it, and we didn't look at the detail again. So now after reading the threads on 2X4 v dowel (2"), and also the natural tree branch possibility, after work today we'll be doing a rehab.

Ah well. They'll sleep better tonight.

Maybe. Could be other reasons. Maybe it became too dark before they had a chance to roost. I have chickens that roost on 14 gauge electrical wiring.
