The Wyandotte Thread

Hi Everyone, I'm a new BYC member - as of yesterday!

I posted an intro in the New Members Thread 'Hello, I'm new here!' on 6/22, with some pictures of our current chickens, including our first Wyandotte chick. I was hoping for some more experienced chicken owners to see if they could judge the age of our chick. The chick photo's shown were taken almost a week ago.

I'm not sure of the protocol, if I should repeat the info here, or if a reference to my intro post is enough.

Thanks

Hi WNY egger, thanks for the welcome.

We have 1 Wyandotte chick, who came home almost 2 weeks ago, she initially had a little Dorking companion, who sadly was in the 'failure to thrive' category, anyone who saw her picture thought she was 2- 3 weeks old, when she was 6 weeks, and very sadly, even though still eating and passing normal stool she passed away overnight last Thursday.

So a 4 hour round trip back to Rochester last Friday saw me bring home a new Pheasant Rock chick as her new companion. Honey is a little smaller, but very bold and they seem to be getting along really well, thanks for the info about the NY State thread, I didn't know there was one! Here are a few photos of the chicks.

The "project" hens for the new color red porcelain blue marked.
The father is a red porcelain cockerel, mothers are splash and blue laced gold.

If you decide to find out please let me know! I am obsessed with both of these breeds! Just got 8 blrw. Waiting to get the lavender orpingtons next.

Testing fertility this week. Apparently the blue Americans she was with had fertility issues.
We've got a couple of her eggs in, now the wait.....we'll know by Next Monday.

the one looks like it could be a silver wyandotte ..i maybe wrong but lets see if anyone else has an opinion on it ..

sorry to hear of the one not making it ..its hard when they dont make it ..i lost a couple full grown birds this spring ..and it doesnt matter how old they are it still stings .....we try and do our best but sometimes its just not enough..

Hi There, yes she is a Silver Laced Wyandotte, hatched on May 22nd, it's fascinating to watch her feathers changing everyday, at first she looked black all over, but now the silver/white coloring is growing into the middle of the feathers. She has the last downy fluff round her neck, but noticed new adult feathers growing in on the top of her head this morning, alongside her comb. Glad to say she is getting along really well with the Partridge Dorking chick we picked up last Friday.
