The Wyandotte Thread

I wish Spring would hurry up and get here! That is when I want to order some BLR chicks from Mrs Turbo

I have two blue pullets from her right now, and they are great. I plan on incubating a few of their eggs in a few days so that I will have chicks to tide me over till Spring

I remember the first time I vent sexed our 5 barred rocks, 3 girls 2 boys, well 12 weeks later, it was 5 boys. now I know you can color sex them and I'm sure that's what happened.

I have learned to wing sex the dottes at 1-3 days. so much easier, just need to mark them because after 4 days, you can't tell until they are older.

oooooh well darn!

but I have a pic of my chick newly hatched.... lemme post and maybe someone can help?

if you want to wing sex them then you need a picture of the wing extended so I can see the feather patterning.

sorry, no, wing sexing can only be done at 1-3 days after that you have to look for other signs.

I'd love to see a picture of the wings of a male and female chick at that age. I'm more of a visual person! I think I know what to look for, but I'd like to be sure!

the one thing it doesn't show is the super fluffy wings I sometimes find on wyandottes. usually those are boys.
