The Wyandotte Thread

Hmmmmm....guess there is a big difference because ours run at your feet when you go out to feed them. Pretty birds though.

Agreed the one black cockerel I got form you is like a huge dog. He talks constantly when I am near him and follows me everywhere.

Hahaha....does he also eat as much as a dog. We have really been working on size and boy, they sure do eat a ton of food when growing out. Some months I don't know how the feed bill gets paid.

Have heard bad reports about McMurray's birds, as far as exhibition quality.

Ideal Poultry Farms got most of their Wyandotte Bantams from Andy Anderson. We have some of their Buff Wyandotte Bantams and they look really good. Need some work, but don't we all! The Ideal birds have some white shanks from Andy suing some Buff Orpington to improve color and fertility. I talked to Andy about and he suggested we use them this year and ull heavy in the offspring. Starting to get some eggs this week. We are using a nice male from Superior Farms.... a Lou Horton line.

You are still better off getting some from an exhibition breeder.

Andy Anderson from Illinois?

hahahaha, they do come running for scratch which is their favorite treat. Some of the girls will lightly peck at my pant legs and look at me like where is our scratch?
But as far as being able to pet them only a few like to be petted the majority of the group is more aloof.

I feel bad for them today as it is sooo cold outside and everything is covered in ice. I would prefer snow to ice. Was going to let them free range today being I am home from work but they did not like all that ice.

I love hatching but have not had very good success with the shipped eggs so far. I think it is half due to the bad winter season and half due to how the USPS handles the shipments.

We can't seem to hatch shipped eggs either.

Will anybody in the Uk have 2 silver laced & 2 golden laced point of lay in March ?

So I have a chicken being weird about her feathers. My GLW started laying in early Jan. I had noticed that when my SLW started laying in Dec they lost some of their feathers on their back in front of their tails leaving just the fuzzy. So when the GLW did it I didn't think too much of it. Well the GLW has gone too far. She is bald on her back now. She is a good daily layer where as my SLW are everyother day. She just doesn't have a good body compared to my SLW. Any ideas on how to get this to stop? Here are pictures. None of the other breeds I have are doing this. So I don't think its bugs but I will go out & look closer (I forgot to look at legs). Its hard to see but the white on the back of the GLW is skin. Oh yeah, no roo's.
