He's not thrilled but I might just have him convinced to TRUST me and let me do my projects. He has his coaching sports, fishing, etc and I have my chickens.

My husband mostly was worried that the wether lamb would never materialize to take care of the lawn for him, and wondering why I keep buying wire and BLRW cockerels.

Well, after I reminded him that we'll get money back when we sell the Shorthorn bull. The cost of a registered beef sire sort of stopped him cold for a while. So communicating animal husbandry logic to a paniccy hubby is something I sympatize with.

Actually I don't breed to sell and I'm pretty new at chickens. I just had a friend that had three roosters and he was getting picked on pretty bad, so I took him home with me. I will let him breed with my chickens, just to replace old hens over the years, but only keep chicks on an as needed basis. I do have 5 hatchery SLW pullets that I adore, and would love to get more SLW babies. So I have no system, and he is just pet quality to me, because all of my chickens are pet quality.

Woohoo, first kinda lottery I have ever won! Maybe he will make me some pretty babies, and maybe some day I can breed to meet breed standards. But until then I will keep my good pet quality rooster and hope some of his babies take after him.

ETA because I forgot to ask what I can do to keep his feathers from turning yellow. Someone mentioned too much corn and someone else mentioned sunburn. Any suggestions in case one of my kiddos decides to take him to fair assuming he's around for a couple years.
