The Wyandotte Thread

If I put a chocolate roo with a gold laced hen, what would I get. Please don't quote the ab+, xyz- bit to me as I don't have a clue what you are saying!

I wouldn't either!!! That sounds like algebra, not biology. lol
But seriously...
My roo is GLW x white Leghorn. I had nine of his eggs (with hatchery white Leghorn hens) hatch and ONE of them hatched out chipmunk color. The rest are some degree of white/light yellow with some amount of black spots on them. These chicks are about a week and a half now. Here are pics (the red chicks in the pic are from gold Comet eggs, crossed with the same rooster).
This is the chipmunk color one (the reddish one in the corner of the pic is from a Comet egg, ignore it).

This is all of them. The whitest one at the top is the best indication of the coloration of the others; the rest are in a shadow of the box kind of; the lighting wasn't great for picture taking, I just wanted to get a pic to post on my own thread. You may be able to see black spots on some of them, they all have black on them somewhere.
If you'll PM me or quote me on here, I'll send or post pics of them as they get older and feather out. Otherwise, feel free to look on my flock thread "Tea Chick's Chicks" in my signature.
I hope this helps some. =)

I may have to give that a try on some less valuable eggs next year. Can't do it this year, I don't have any roosters yet. I have some chicks coming March 24, straight run so I can get a rooster from this batch. Their just hatchery stock but good for laying eggs.

Yeah.
Mine are hatchery birds too. I bought them last year (mid-Mar). I'm just hatching for layers right now. I might see if the feed store has some of the Wyandottes from when I was there last. I hope so!!! (maybe I can get a break on them)

I will disagree on the lacing. I did a SLW x Choc and I have a Cockerel from that cross that look like a slw but he looks like he is showing more black than my reg SLW.

I don't know the genes behind my Choc but he didn't express any lacing that I could see. Only the hens had lacing.

He must have had Pattern gene in him. When breeding a true solid bird and laced bird the best you are going to get is a splash of color on the tips of the feather. Pg/pg Ml/ml
At best this would be incomplete lacing.

Hi everyone! This is the breed I have decided to concentrate on...so guess I'll start lurking

I have one GLW and a new member to my flock is a splash BLRW roo. I'm hoping to get some Silver Penciled. Here's my two. Not show quality, but I think they're pretty and SO sweet!

That's my fault for taking pictures with my mobile. The white hen is a grey pekin (unless you mean the silkie roo!) The hen I meant is the gold lace at the front.
Here is a better one of her (I think)

I would not use this hen for breeding...The type is off, her head is crow shaped, her legs too close together, and her tail is too narrow.
Her lacing and leg color are okay.
The Wyandotte type is more like your Black hen...more of a round, deep body shape and with a good broad back.
