The Wyandotte Thread

So if someone is advertising blue laced red - the adult bird could look like:
this

or this

or this

?

All very pretty birds! I'm just trying to get it straight in my head.

help please?

I keep seeing folks refer to wynadottes as: red laced, blue laced, black laced, white laced, red laced blue, black laced blue, blue laced red - etc. I am so confused. Are each of these destinct breeds?
Here are some pictures that I pulled off of google images.
The first 2 are a silver laced and a gold laced.
The rest are??????
the laced varieties are silver laced, gold laced, both of which are recognized varieties, then the blue laced red, which has a darker red (not gold) background. but due to the nature of the blue mutation, it's going to show as either blue black or splash. just like solid colored BBS birds, but the BBS is limited to just the edging of the feather.

here are a few of my own...

Smee is blue laced. (bantam)
solid blue birds tend to have a darker edge to the blue feathers, which can be seen on him as well.

Big'un is also a blue laced red (LF), but he's got much darker red and blue markings than Smee...

Lacey is a splash laced red (LF)

Smee's Girl (bantam) and Cagney (LF from Foley - blame hubby for the name LOL) are black laced red.

I have some cockerels that are light blue or maybe splash and they also have that dark edging on their feathers, because I am unsure what color they really are I am going to test breed them to black hens. Do you think that dark edging means they only carry one dilution gene? If so I may have a bunch of light blues...I also have a light blue that has one black lace feather on his chest...weird stuff.

THANKS!

Cagney and Lacy are beautiful!!! And I love the eyebrows on the roos! LOL

I think I've got it now. Silver and Gold laced are easy. Everything else is a blue/black/splash base with red lacing (which can vary).
I can't wait to add some of these beauties to my flock. And now I'll know what I'm supposed to call them.

WyandotteTX has many years experience breeding Wyandottes you can surely pass on some valuable information to all of us who follow this thread. I would like to ask if you would be so kind as to lead in a discussion about what type and shape are in this breed. Maybe discuss one part of the bird at a time, like necks, wings or tails??? We could draw from your years of knowledge. I know I would love to meet with you and learn all I can.

I refer to them by their colors, for example: Blue Laced Red, Splash Laced Red, But all are BLRW variety. I find it annoying to say Splash Blue Laced Red, Black blue laced red.
And there ARE other project colors out there, So some names you have heard might just be different not well known variety. There is a Violete laced, chocolate partridge, and Buff laced.and a few others. But like I said, Very unknown varieties in wyandottes.

*noob alert*

Anyone who is breeding BLRW's would have the occasional splash, correct? Since Blue is just Black that has been diluted, something like 10-25% turn up splash... amiright?

Can splash be determined as chicks? Or do you have to wait until they begin to feather out?

One day I will live on 10+ acres and have as many chickens as I want... But alas, I've only got room left for 2 maybe 3 more until it's time to begin rotating in some younger birds. I find the Splash Laced rather attractive and would love to get a couple of them in my flock sometime down the line.
