The Wyandotte Thread

Have been strictly LF before that. I think Brody's Broodello has nice birds. She's got some pictures of hers on page 2 of this thread. They show and could give you a better critique of your birds than I can.

Oh I just went and looked...holy smokes! Check out that hen of hers! Oh my goodness. You know, I don't necessarily need to show them to love them and work on breeding beautiful birds...I think I might like to let Miss Wynona hatch a brood and see what kind of mama she'd make. I just love looking at her, even with her faults and especially love the way Wyatt looks.

Thanks for the nice comments, I really like our girls, they are so cool. We have two new awesome boys for breeding this year, and I just hatched 3 cuties from them. I can't wait to see how they develope!

I'm telling you, I could just gobble those SL'd beauties you have right up...what amazingly beautiful creatures. I miss mine so bad right now...out in the sleet...*sigh* Oh well. At least they;re dry and can go inside when they want to be warm. I went and gave them some sprouts and greens to peck at earlier and it's gone gone gone now...so I think later as it gets dark I'm going to bring a bit of yogurt and oatmeal with their feed. I can't wait til summer when they can be free rangers again...they looked so pretty this fall, in with the leaves and all, I bet they will look really pretty in the woods in summer time!

Please keep pictures coming of your new hatchlings...I can't wait to see how they look!

I've never had a problem with frostbite on my wyandottes' combs.....every once in the while one of the roos will get a little on his wattles. I've got BBS, SL, and BLR.....I don't really have a favorite color pattern.

My SL'd pair have endured a very cold winter with no trouble or frostbite.

I like silver laced...and gold laced....but basicly, put any Wyandotte in front of me and I'll blush! They're just awesome looking birds any color, any size any way you slice it!

MountainFarmPeeps: Thanks for the camera tips!

Has anyone noticed a temperament difference within the varieties of wyandottes? I'm just curious. I have three of each of the following: blue, silver laced and gold laced. Now they are only seven days old but the gold laced seem to be a little more confident and assertive than the other two. No one is really picking on anyone, doesn't seem to be a pecking order that I can see yet but it just seems like those little golden laced girls are first in line to do everything. They were the first to jump on the food, the water and anything new that enters the brooder. And they seem to be the leaders of the really intense peck-at-sides-of-brooder parties. Any thoughts?

Hello Wyandotte folks. I am thinking of adding Wyandottes to my flock and wanted to know if they fly well or if they have trouble getting off the ground. The reason I ask is that my fence is 5 feet high, on the other side of the fence is a busy street. I would rather not have to clip wings. My BO and RIR hens haven't tried to go over the fence yet...

I think it was more intended as needing to be posted in the injuries/cures section.
