The Wyandotte Thread

rainierlass~ Foley's lines are very good! I have 15 wk old BLRW chicks that are Paul lines and Catt lines, plus 5 week old BLRW chicks that are Foley x Paul lines and they are shaping up nicely. I was also surprised at what beautiful "Blue" Wyandottes I got from Privett hatchery . . go figure! Here is a picture of them~ They are 1 yr olds.

Those are some gorgeous blues! I think Privett has some nice birds!

Now I know I am going to have to have just one more color!

I was out finishing up the external nest boxes today and adding a storage cabinet ...I caught myself just staring at

my Wy's thinking what a great choice I made for my first flock.......I have a Black Astralorp ( my far and above friendliest girl ) and 2 Wellies

that are the most curious and vocal as well! I love them all but those Wy's are so dang cute!

You did make some great choices! I have gotten all my hatchery birds from Privett and I hate to tell you this, but you just might have to add 2 more colors because Privett also has rare "BUFF" Wyandottes that are beautiful! I just didn't keep mine because I ran out of room

Buff Wyandotte chicks 7 wks old.

Wow those are super cute too Chickee.........speaking of room - I have absolutely no EXTRA room at this point but who knows what next year and my chicken math might do!!!

I am hoping these BLRW's turn out nice and I will try to incubate eggs and have chicks for sale next spring.....the thought of adding a couple of those Blues to my flock is very very tempting......and maybe a Buff............and then there are bantams...........see?

A friend of mine has a used chicken tractor on his property he is trying to get me to haul off for him......actually he has two of them......hmmmmmm that would add space for more....

Headed out to do some painting on the coop - just added my external nest boxes yesterday - the few I have laying didn't skip a beat -I know the SLW's are but there is one larger egg - a bit lighter - that has been laid as well the last couple of days not sure who that might be - possible the Astralorp ) .........there were 2 eggs in the new boxes this morning!!......

Would love to see more of your flock - they are soooooo nice!

(Kicking the boxes to the outside gave me more floor space!!

Collecting eggs is SO much fun! My last flock was made up of one hen each, of lots of differents breeds. I would go out and watch them lay, and I new exactly which hen laid which egg by its color!! I even made up an egg chart with pictures of the hens and "their" egg to give to friends and family when I sent home eggs with them! They thought it was so cool!

Sounds like your having fun working out at the chicken yard! I am always out at mine changing things around to make things better. Like you, every available space has chicks, chickens and roosters! I'm trying to sell some of the culls to make room for Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas chicks, if I get them to hatch that is!? I just put the 16 shipped eggs from Pips&Peeps Ameraucanas in the incubator on the 16th, due on August 5th. I've become a hatchaholic! This will be my 5th time this year! Beware! once you start, your hooked!!
Want to see more pictures of your birds too!

Here is a picture of my best Paul's Poultry line, 15 wk old Spash pullet with beautiful, crisp lacing! She wouldn't hold still for the picture!!!

Wow, I'm envious of y'all on the West Coast. It is way too hot even in the early morning to do anything but the basics (feed & water) here. Today it was in the upper 90's with the heat index in the 100's.

I lived on the central coast in CA years back and loved it! Entrenched here in the south now. Try to "bloom where I am planted", but mostly wilting in this heat!

******Chickee that splash hen of yours is a carbon copy of mine! Aren't they somethin'? Mine is a bit older @ 23 weeks but the thing I am finding is they get better and better as time goes on!

Beautiful today here in the PNW.......internet on the deck , turkey burger on the grill, painting all done on the coop and the fence tightened up........and a gorgeous

sunny 62 F degrees!!!

We aren't going to have summer I guess....unless you count 5 days a week ago in the high 80's and low 90's ...that might

have been the extent of it.........hoping for a nice fall due to how chilly we have been......we can have some pretty awesome Sept and Oct's around here...

I seriously would not trade ANY of it for heat and that horrific humidity - - (raised in Nebraska

Perfect weather here to work outside so I am not complaining!

Well, its not cool here in the mountains between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe! Two days ago it was 101 degrees
barnie.gif
and 99 degrees every day after that!! It is supposed to cool down into the low to mid 90's for the rest of the week. I only go outside to water down the chicken yard. Poor chickens are so hot! Even with water misters they aren't cool enough. Keeping a fan going in the chicken house and having trouble getting them to go into a hot house at night!
sad.png
Thank goodness last night the overnight temps dropped and cooled the house down before dark! But I'll join you in being envious of rainierlass!
tongue.gif
What I'd give to have cool temps right now to be able to spend time out with the chickens!!
