I've read the APA SOP on wyandottes many times. Seems the trouble with the standards is they are generally vague and subject to interpretation. What is medium to one person could be a whole different interpretation by another.

Once again I implore everyone that reads this post to read the APA STANDARD. My esteemed colleague has given incorrect information again. You DO NOT want birds with really short legs. The standard (not me) calls for both lower thighs and shanks to be stout and of medium length. It also says about the fluff not so abundant as to hide the profile of the LOWER portion of the LOWER thighs.

You don't want the hen to have so much fluff that you cant see the "Platoons" she is wearing..LOL. You want to see the lacing-feathering on the top part of her legs, so you want birds that dont have too much fluff and that have really short legs...

Lately this forum has really taken a turn for the better! Now - I am actually really learning things! Thank You!
I thank the members of this forum for their frank assessment of one another's birds. For those of us who live outside of mainstream "show country" - it is how we learn. We need more of these discussions on this forum!
My personal pet-peeve is when some people write in - pretending that they want a critique of their birds - when want they really want is fawning admiration.
For what it is worth - and coming from someone living way out in the country - when I start sending pictures of my own birds in - I want no-holds-barred critiques of the birds who's photos I send in.
I'm an adult.
I can handle the truth.

In addition, the original query gets lost amid the laymen's compliments, and the experts never see the pics in order to do a critique. If folks just want to show off their babies, gushing is great. That's one of the nice things about BYC, as opposed to other forums, but gush where it's appropriate.

Your fine to gush over her silvers....they are way too young to give a detailed critique about, the tails will not be filled out and finished until they are older ( I think the tail is the last thing to fill out on a young wyandotte).....also just the angle or profile of a picture can make a birds tail look different or the way the bird is holding their tail up or down at the time the picture is taken.
If we could judge birds by pictures we would just do away with poultry shows and only have "picture shows".
