I was considering getting a few SL Wyandottes but I have a two year-old boy and was a little concerned about the rumored tendency for some individuals to be aggressive. How docile are Wyandottes? How frequently are roosters or hens aggressive? How aggressive? Are there any behavior traits that are more typical of certain colors?
Here are some of our new generation 2010 BLRW pullets...... getting some pictures before it gets too cold. I Need to get some pictures of the Cockerels too.....guess the girls like the camera.
this one could use a little better lacing in the front, but she has great type and the heads are getting bigger.

yes.....they were introduced about 7-8 generations back...... they were just offered this year in the chick orders unless someone talked us out of some before then or a chick jumped the divider in the hatcher, it happens. We raised 2 generations a year to get this result. When we first started this project others said it couldn't be done, but we are very excited with the results. One way to improve a trait your breed is lacking is to cross another breed into your flock and cull like crazy while crossing back onto the original flock you are trying to improve. We had to get the Wyandotte shape back from the brick looking Rhode Island Reds and work the lacing back in. We did a few other crosses at the same time in separate pens and they didn't work out so they were all culled and not used. Every new breed is a result of a cross. There is nothing wrong with crossing another breed into your flock to improve them. Just do some research and ask questions along the way. There are some helpful people out there that know a ton of information, you just have to dig for them. Just a hint, they are mostly guys that like to hear cock bird instead of roo, rooster, Mr. Red, and "boy chicken".....LOL
We had a long discussion posted somewhere on the subject, I will have to find it and copy and paste.
