When I talked to Foley he said that a horse shoe shaped tail is what a Wyandotte should have rather than a /\ "ti-pi" shaped. Does anyone else breed toward this? Both my roosters have a horse shoe shaped tail.

well i was discussing just the hens' tails, the roosters would be more rounded because of the curled tail feathers. but you still want smooth curves, not abrupt direction changes (like bunny tails for example).

this is smee... not the best pic, again fuzzy. but you can see how much more rounded his tail is compared to the hen's

When I see a /\ shaped tail on a Wyandotte, I think hatchery. Not saying that all /\ shaped tails are hatchery stock. Its just my first impression.

well, they're not hatchery, she's 2nd gen foley's and my black laced is directly from him. they both have the same tails...

i've just been going by what i've seen at shows and my interpretation of the SOP...

I will have to look at mine tomorrow and see if it is curved or teepee shaped. My SLW hen from Foley has not tail to speak of, but the roo is curved. All my roos are curved. I know my Splash LRW Pullet from Foley is curved so far, but she is young still. ...... need to look

I know some eggs I hatched from hens with teepees, but I don't think the pullets have teepees.... odd.

I am sorry, I need to clarify something. /\ this symbol to me is V-shaped tail. I missed the misspelling in the previous post. I talking when I see a V-shaped tail I am talking hatchery. My Foley cockerel is horse shoe shaped, and my hens are ??????? I need to take a better look. I know they are not bustle tailed, I need to look at my SOP again, and again.....................

Off topic but I was just wondering...

Are anyone else's Wyandottes really 'sensitive' to changes? I took in a flock of birds from a friend not too long ago and just recently brought in 3 rescue ducks and ALL of my girls quit laying... completely. They're done this to me before when they're coop got "too dirty", no eggs for 2 days then the day after it was cleaned nearly everyone laid an egg by noon.

Just wondering if it's normal for dottes or did i just raise sensitive/picky girls??
