I've got to pick up eggs Tuesday and my incubators thermometers all say something different.. I've had it running for over a week trying to get ready to hatch. Since I'm new to this I have three digital thermometers in it and they all read different. #1 My Radio Shack indoor/outdoor has been in the longest stays a steady 99.7. #2 I placed a new Inter- Therm + in today it is reading 100.8 to 101.8. #3 Acura Rite I also got it today and its reading 98.8 to 99.5. Two of them reads the humidity readings and they're around 45% and all the water in it is 12cc to 24cc about ever five hours. That doesn't seem like very much to me but I tried putting water in the bottom trays and with only one filled it went up to 80%. Help!

You need to calibrate your thermometer. I don't know how to do this to a digital one but if you get a regular thermometer you can calibrate it in ice water. Maybe once you do this you can use that thermometer to see which of your digital ones is reading correctly.

Here's how, put some ice cubes in a jar of cold water. You want the water slushy. Add your regular thermometer it should read 0 degrees for Centigrade or 32 for Fahrenheit because that's the temperature water freezes. If it's not right on those values, now you know how much it is out and what you have to add (or subtract) to compensate.

Please note that temperatures only a degree or two above the recommended temperatures can kill chicks within 15-30 minutes depending on how high the temperature is and the stage of development of the chick embryo. Slightly lower temperatures will not kill the chick embryos, but can increase incubation times and produce weakened chicks.

So you can see how important it is to get an accurate temperature reading.
