There has got to be a way to make your chicken broody!

My hatchery BO went crazy broody in May - if I hadn't had chicks arriving I think she would still be sitting on that nest. Be careful what you wish for - it was annoying as heck.

ETA: I did 'make' a hen go broody, though it didn't take much coaxing. You see, I have 1 Easter Egger hen who lays pretty blue eggs but my incubator was all full up. So I just left the eggs in the nest. Eventually one of my OEGB hens decided the eggs needed some company

Come to think of it, I guess I 'made' 2 hens go broody, though #2 was completely unintentional. I had 'collected' the day's eggs from the nests since most of the nests that get laid in double as sleeping quarters for broodies with bitties. Being the lazy ### that I am, I just put the eggs in a nest that I knew didn't double as a mama hen penthouse. You can imagine my surprise when I went out there after dark, reached into this 2' deep nest and felt something move

Yep, dad's american game hen decided that the egg fairy had finally visited 'her' nest and left her a bunch of eggs
