I was watching Dog the Bounty Hunter tonight(I know, leave me alone...

) and they were at this place and a rooster was crowing in the background. This isn't the first time I've heard a rooster or seen chickens on the show. In fact, it happens quite often.

Anybody from Hawaii? Can you confirm the chicken population?

I cannot speak about Hawaii, but I lived in Key West for 4 years. Now THAT place is overrun with chickens. They are even viewed as a distinct breed by some. I've seen their hatching eggs being sold on the internet.

All the islands of Hawaii had wild chickens, until European settlers brought in mongoose to kill the snakes. Sailors were going to unload them on Maui too, but a sailor was bitten by a mongoose,& threw the cage into the ocean. Leaving Maui as the only island left with wild chickens. Those chickens are now protected.

Awesome tale!

On the island of oahu, (where Dog the Bounty Hunter is) it really depends on what part of the island you are on. Most of the wild chickens are on the east side of the island like in kaneohe and kailua and waiminalo. There are also a few on the west side. Theyre are hardly any anywhere else because most of the island is very urbanized
