There's a chicken in my front yard?!?

Welcome!
I believe there is a buy/sell section here on BYC where you can list it. Maybe someone in your area would see the ad and be willing to adopt/rescue it. I know I would if I lived nearby.
Wishing you the best of luck and a Happy New Year!
That's a great idea but they have to have over 20 posts to their record and be established in the community before you can use that category.;)

Hens are very sweet animals. You can use a cotton bed sheet to gently drape over her to catch her, if catching her is a problem. Just be mindful to hold her wings to her body.

Then just tuck her inside a bathroom with a very secure door or a dog crate in the garage, out of reach of the dogs. Some newspaper or old towels, a bowl of water with a heavy rock in it so it doesn't knock over, and on the other side of the crate a small bowl of dry cat food if that's all you have.

Not ideal but a great start.

And then post flyers in the feed stores, on Craigslist as suggested, and call local farms. Also check the lost pets section and report her to the police department. They'll forward your call to animal control, but it's been my experience that there's often a delay. Animal control doesn't get the message immediately sometimes, and meanwhile someone may call the police to report a lost chicken. I've made contact with many pet owners this way when I've rescued dogs.

Enjoy her soft chirps, and she may even lay an egg for you!!

this is the chicken, I have it in a cat crate now. I gave it water and food but it hasn't touched either. I also sent an email to The Chicken Rescue, hopefully ill hear from them soon. Thank you all for the help your giving.

She's a beauty! Thank you for your kind heart in giving her refuge. She's lost or abandoned, clearly, and chickens are very social creatures. I can imagine that she arrived at your doorstep in a state of confusion. :hit
Good job with the positive karma going into the new year.

Hi! I just moved to the DFW area and have been thinking of adopting another hen so my house chicken can have a buddy. What ended up happening with this one that you rescued? If she still needs a home, I'd be interested in talking with you more about it! I hope she's doing well. :)
