Have a thermo-peep heating pad to use with a Brinsea 600 brooder for baby chicks. Wanted to use those paper puppy pads with plastic backing in my brooder first. Directions for pad says no material on top but is it safe to sit on paper pad all day and night? My chicks will be inside the house until it warms up.
Thank you for any insight or experience using these!

You don't need a thermo-peep heating pad in conjunction with a brooder plate. Just use the plate. That will be fine for a few days on top of a plastic backed puppy pad. Then switch over to pine shavings. You need have 1 sq ft of space per chick until they are about 4 weeks old. Then kick it up to 2 sq ft of space per chick. Have lots and lots of ventilation in the brooder and they will do well.
