Ok, folks. I've been doing various message board searches in an attempt to answer my question, but I can't find anything. So, here's the situation.
I have two digital thermometer inside my homemade bator, one an *Acu-Rite* hygrometer, and the other, a digital meat thermometer. Both probes are placed inside my homemade water wiggler. The hygrometer unit is also placed inside the bator, on the hardware cloth above the water reservoir. Oh, I also placed a zipper thermometer on top of the eggs, just to see air temp there. The water bowl is underneath the hardware cloth "floor", with a sponge and water filled 1/2 way. In regards to humidity, we heat our home with a pellet stove and I have a hose going from outside the bator down to the water reservoir, to prevent humidity loss from opening the incubator lid.
My readings: Acu-Rite: IN 99.1, OUT 103.1, Humidity 28%.
Dig. Meat thermom: 95.
Zipper thermom: 105 aprox.
OK...so my question is....there's an eight degree difference between the two thermometers. Now, the thermostat is turned down as low as it can go, which is 90, according to the packaging it came in, but it's still running the bulb. So, how is there such a difference between the two thermometers placed inside the wiggler? (other than the fact that they are two different types).
I am more apt to believe (which may be bias b/c I really hope I'm right which would mean that I didn't cook the eggs last night when the acurite thermometer read 110 inside the wiggler....that the meat thermometer is more accurate to the interior of the eggs. I also think that this is true b/c the thermostat does not shut off the light.
So, what do you all think? Which thermometer is more accurate?
