Those are not Black Australorps. BAs are black all over, no brown in the wings whatsoever, at any stage of development.

Sorry that I don't know what they ARE, only what they are not.

I have thought that maybe they are Barnvelders. I know it is unusual and they might be mutts too but could they? They have a brown-reddiish lacing on their wings that is reather pretty.

They look exactly like my Black Sex Link/Black Star babies.

What color are their legs? They were in the pullet side when I bought them. How are black sex links separated by sex? Is it by color of the legs? Mine have yellow legs but black in a sort of stain on top.

Where did you get your chicks?

My 2 barnevelders have yelllow legs with a light grey wash - this is them at 8-9 weeks (you can see the legs in the second photo):

Our black sexlinks have varying degrees of brown on their feathers- the one on the left of the 1st photo has some brown on her back (ignore the black comb - she's the only one of the bunch to have one). One thing they all had in common is the long leg & long necks (see second photo). Most had grey legs.

These black sexlink chicks are about 4-6 weeks of age in these photos:

The legs are like the sex link but the brown copper looks a lot like the barnvelders even the beak. I the second picture they are about the same age. I will post again in a few weeks so we can compare again ok. I do think mutt from the feed store (which I think gets them from the hatchery)
