I raised these two buttheads from their first second of life. Hatched them. Tended to their every want and need. Cleaned their brooder out multiple times a day, fed them, held them, gave them treats, took them to the sink to swim, etc etc. Was never rough, loud, or mean to them.

And yet a few months later, they not only run away from me, but now the male has started raising his duck-hackles like he’s extra tough and going to run me off. Sigh. 😔

What breed makes the sweetest pet? I want some lap-ducks, darn it!

Give it a few months. The sun is shifting and they can tell fall is coming. My pekins had seasonal paranoia around fall/ winter, thoughts of Christmas dinner lingering on the mind…..

My pekins were also kinda bipolar in general though, one day they would like me, the next I was a filthy peasant ruining their day with my presence., and the day after that I might as well have been a xenomorph with the way they acted around me.

Rouens and Cayugas are so far the most friendly I’ve had, and adding in a calm duck can help the others relax.
