They all want the same nesting box

I was wondering if you could get a second red nesting box? I know my chickens love anything red. They may not change preference but it’s worth a shot!

Could I use hard boiled eggs or will they break them?

Much better to use fake eggs.

You want something permanent, not something that will rot.

I like golf balls because I can tell them from real eggs by touch when rooting around under a broody.

We've got 5 hens and it takes them till after lunchtime for them all to lay. They don't all hop in the same one at the same time but they rather this one spot. And right now we've got a duck laying and she's decided to lay there too.

LOL! The grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side according to chickens! Just watch them when treats are tossed to them, and you'll completely understand the nest box thing.

You can toss the same treats in 10 different spots, but they'll all fight over one spot. If there are those on the other side of the yard with Prime Rib, but something new is tossed on the OTHER side of the yard, they'll leave the Prime Rib, and race over to make sure they don't miss any of the stuff the others are getting.

Nest boxes are no different. If A used it, that must be the one to use, so B, C, and D will all try to use it, many times at the exact same time. We've had as many as three (3) chickens try to wedge themselves into a single nest box at a time. It's hilarious...

They Shouldnt break them. After all hardboiled are harder than raw.

Thanks yes I’m the one who painted the coop. I want my chickens to think it’s summer all year long plus I retired last year so lots of time to dabble lol. The perch is my favourite it’s pretty much what goes on in there, every one talking and no one listening, lol

I’ll give it a try! I retired this year so lots of time to paint my coop lol. It’s like summer in there all year long lol.
