they are pipping and peeping

my eggs that my broodies are setting on are starting to hatch!!! 2 are pipped and about 6 more to go. I am so excited. They are peeping up a storm. I am expecting silkies, banty cochins and polish. one that is pipped is a silkie and one a cochin.

I've got a mottled cochin!!! My favorite cochin color. I can't wait to see whats next!!! It sure is a noisy one! I will post pictures tomorrow when its cuter!

now I have black cochin too, not sure who mommy is since I don't own a black one. Maybe my mottled hen is the mother. I have 2 roosters, both are red, 1 is a frizzle and 1 is a regular feather, and 3 hens, a mottled hen and 2 buff hens, so not really sure where the black same from.

Also, there is a polish egg hatching!!! I am so excited. By the time that I get home I think that I will have lots of babies! Then I will wait for more on the 21st. I candled those babies last night and they were all jumping like little jumping beans.

How exciting!!!! When you post a pic of the chicks, can you also post a pic of the mottled cochin hen - I'd love to see one.

my batteries are suddenly dead on the camera...but I have attached a picture of the mottled cochin hen. She is my favorite. Her markings are stunning. She is a retired show bird and did quite alot of winning in her career. I hope that her babies are as nice as she is.

the polish chick didn't make it out, but I had a blue silkie hatch. Not sure where the blue came from, but its blue.

And another silkie just popped out, its a splash. I am so excited. These guys were incubated by my silkies and then once they started to pip I took them away and stuck them in the incubator. I traded them for new eggs. I hope that I can get them to hatch 1 more clutch for me.

I am very happy with her. I got her by chance. I was buying feed at the feed store and a lady was talking to the store owner about that she shows chickens and had several cochins that she needed to place in homes as she was getting out of cochins, and well...I was getting into cochins so I poked into their conversation and followed her home right then and there and she sold me the mottled hen, 2 buff hens, a partridge hen, a blue hen and a 2 red roosters (1 frizzle 1 regular) for $20. They are all retired showbirds, but were not over a year old. They are all great and beautiful. Couldn't ask for nicer birds.

As far as the eggs go, no more are pipped this morning, but I counted that I am expecting 6 more from this hatch and have 3 out and in the brooder. This was my hen that kept laying for over a week after she started setting so who knows when they will all hatch. The other broody has eggs under her that are due on the 21st as well as 4 muscovy eggs. They are just shuffling them back and forth between them, and all I can say is thankfully they are marked. And boy is it easier to leave them under a hen than to have to mess with the incubator. Unforunately none of my other silkies are old enough to go broody yet, so I just have these 2 and I am sure they are going to want to quit one of these days.
