I made the chicks a tiny coop. Its 3 feet by 2 feet. and 20 inches high. I insulated 3 sides of it. I laid a piece of foam over 2/3 of the top. Top is just chicken wire. I do have a heat lamp dangling over the top. But It got down to 35 last night and they were fine. Course when I stuck my hand in there it felt pretty warm. So they are not officially heat free yet. Yesterday it was in the 40's and they did just fine as well and the coop wasnt that well insulated as it is now. I did have it protected from the wind. chicks will be 5 weeks old on sunday and are pretty well feathered. im very happy they can be outside. My daughter has allergies to them. Besides it took me a half hour to dust and clean the bathroom they were staying in. as im typing this they are all milling around scratching at the floor and chirping away!
