They Have A New Feeder/My Chicken Engineer Is Wonderful

I built a feeder along the same idea. However, the area where they can get to the feed is only about an inch wide. I never see any waste and they have been using it since about June. I have it mounted on the wall at about the height of their back. I have raised it a couple of times (They started using it at about 8 weeks old) and believe it is time to raise it one final time.

We realized that the feeder part might be too large once it was made, but we tried it anyway. And the result has been good. There has been no waste so far and they don't scratch in it and they all can eat at once if they want to. I like yours!

Mountain Sunshine,

We must think alike cause I've built one similar to it about three years ago and still love it. I made the bottom portion out of aluminum cause it's rounded. My area were they feed was like yours but I raised the lip so they have a harder time spilling it out. I like this style better than the round one cause it fits tight to the wall and takes up less space.

I am glad yours worked out so well. Everyone kept saying that the feeder part was to wide, etc. But, we haven't had a problem. It has worked out great and there is enough room for all the kiddo's to share! I might think about putting a lip on ours, just in case! Thanks for the idea!

We fill it from the back of it. Well, actually behind the wall. A pvc pipe goes into from the outside, we have a cap on the pvc pipe to keep rain out.

I would love to see a pic of the pipe as I am thinking of a nearly identicle set up!
