stealing what??? Crumbs!!

So I have six very naughty chickens and one duck. I'd say three of the chickens like me, three of them don't care about me. The duck hates me but will eat from my hand HA.

But ALL of them go crazy when I open my backyard door. They HAVE to go inside. Even if I'm standing up and blocking the door, squeezing in time!

They're all usually cautious of new places and have never been in my house before(unless you count the brooder, but that was upstairs out of the way) but they are not cautious of going in the house! They want IN!
What appeals them? Possible treats? A possible new sleeping place? What? I'm wondering if they come in because they see crumbs on the floor...haha. When they slip past me they sometimes pick up crumbs while they explore right before I kick them out...haha

Even the duck, which gets scared of ANYTHING, I mean ANYTHING, wants to come in! (and has managed to squeeze in)

My naughty SLW, Peace,(my favorite actually hehe) got in just now and flew up on top of a chair and just got all comfortable and went to sleep. It was adorable, but my mama doesn't like it, haha. Especially...when they poop on your chair.

Haha. Luckily, I just stuck my hand near her and she went on my hand immediately. Love her!

Do your free range chickens do this?? My mom can't wait till the coop is built ha. Almost done!!

I have never experienced this same exact thing, what I have noticed about my birds is they want to be in the exact spot I do not want them to be. When I try to move them out of that area they gebnerally split up run amok and circle back to the original spot. Well at least I am getting plenty of exercise.

That's really cute. Mine come up on the porch if they think I have treats, and I have even see them just hang out on the porch, but I have never had them try to get in the house. Maybe your house smells better than mine!

I am not sure where you are from but around here--EVERYTHING wants in because of the AC--It's been in the high 90's and the humidity must be at least 90%!! One of our large hounds lays outside the doggie door and sticks her head in ( it's the only thing that will fit thru).. The AC vent is just inside the door and she will sleep for hours like that..It's happened so much the summer that the little dogs just beg to go out the front door and bark to get back in cause Lucy (the hound) AIN"T movin")! Yep, around here they would be stealing the cool air!! Dixie

Yeah, mine wait by the backdoor and try to get in. One smart EE I have has figured out the doggie door, and will use it to come look for me if I haven't been outside in a few hours. They are funny funny birds! The guineas won't dare try and come in. The geese sit outside the door and cry, but they don't try and force their way in like the chickens.

Yeah, here they want into the AC too. When my broodiest girl was just getting ready to lay, she had to come into the Sunroom where she was brooded. It was like the Salmon's homing instinct. She just knew that's where you were supposed to raise your baby chicks and she demanded to be let in.
