I sold nine of my ten silkie chicks that hatched on the 1st of jan last week. They all sat perfectly still and silent and let me take the family portrait, something they had NEVER done before. Also, they only reluctantly ate the scratch I put before them, and seemed to huddle against their mother as the time drew nearer and nearer. Finally the buyers came and we managed to sell them in two lots, so they wouldn't be lonely. (7 to one and 2 to the other). The last chick has suddenly become so much more independent, and their mother is now a laying hen again. I think she still remembers the clutch though. Once in a while she will still make motherly noises before remembering all her chicks are gone...
