They only lay in one nest box

and yes there are empty nest boxes right next to this one.

My 2 leghorns were in the same nest box this morning... LOL I have 6 nest boxes, but they both decided to crowd in to one. After the one layed and got out... announcing to the world with an eggsong, I went and checked. The other was still in there and she layed about 20 minutes later... no song for her... she just hopped out and went and got a drink of water... funny how one will sing the song and the other did not. I need to get a picture of them both in the same nest box if they do it agin tomorrow.

Ours really like only one box too. They will even stand in line to use it, or dig a nest in the dirt and lay there.

Look at it as a plus, you don't need to look around for the eggs!! LOL I am always thinking ;funny creatures.

I only had one laying, so it was no big deal, she has been laying since Sept 1st, and up until a week ago, always used nest box #4. Last week she moved to nest box #2 & #3. Today I went out, my daughter got the egg out of #3, and I found a egg in #4, so one of my other girls started laying. I know it was not there yesterday, because I readjusted all the golf balls and fluffed up the wood chips.

So I can not wait to see which of my other two girls it could be who has started laying.
