They Poop in their Water?

Dude - birds are messy and pretty nasty. LOL! What can I do? I have one of those water bottles that you screw a tray onto and flip so that it constantly refills the dish. But they make a MESS of that water. it looks like maybe they are pooping in it - it's gross. Any ideas of ways to keep the water clean?

My chickens used to do that really bad until I elevated their waterer on a block about 2-3 inches higher and now they dont do it. Beings that quail are smaller, I have no idea really

JJ, didn't you say you use the 'drink cups', or did I dream that? I've had some for about a year now, and was gonna try them last year ... but never got around to it.....

I use those 1 gallon plastics. I cut a hole in the top and then glue 1/2 inch PVC pipe with a cap so I can fill from the top. I just shove an ear plug into the hole so it will fill... Oh and I hang them 3 inches off the ground.
