I put 58 eggs from my coturnix into the hatcher the other day. They are due today, but I figured they'd hatch tonight. I always set the eggs late, around 9 or 10 pm. I woke up this morning with 1 A&M and 2 tuxedo babies in the hatcher!

Went outside to feed, came back in and checked again.... Up to 7 babies now!!

Wrapped up some eggs to mail out, printed the label and all that blah blah. Checked again.......

There are so many babies in there, I can't even count them!

I know they aren't done hatching, since I stood there and watched one hatch!

I've got the brooder up to 91 degrees, I'm hoping I can get it a little bit higher. The majority are A&M and jumbo browns, but there are quite a few tuxedos, and looks like there are a few goldens as well!

I imagine there are some tibetans as well, but they are all so wet, I'm not positive.

I counted after I got offline earlier, had to move the little boogers to the brooder, it was getting a bit crowded in there! There were 45 then, and there's 47 now (at last count). It looks like there are 4 goldens, and a whole bunch of tuxedos! Of course there are browns and A&Ms, but it looks like I have a few dark and rosetta tibetans as well! Some of the rosettas are tuxedoed, but I guess I'll have to live with that!

Looks like grand total is going to be 48, one is dead in the shell, and there are some that haven't done anything. A few are quitters that I didn't notice, their shell sounds weird and they don't look completely full. There are some that I can't tell on, so I'll wait a few days. I need to anyway, since those darned button eggs haven't done anything!! Only 1 baby from the eggs so far, and it hatched 2 days ago!

AWSOME! My first quail hatched today! It really made my day! It was so hard for me to believe it was THAT small!!!

It really took my by surprise! They are Jumbo Brown Coturnix. Congrats on your babies also. Don't give up on the other eggs! Mine hatched on day 20! It is healthy and doing great!

I'll leave them in there for a while, I don't need the hatcher for a few more days. The button eggs are in a bowl inside the hatcher, so they can stay in there for a while, until I give up on them completely!

I haven't checked yet to see if there were any other hatchlings, but I doubt it. There weren't any other pips when I checked before, so I think they are done.

But I have 48 from 58 eggs, with 1 dead in shell, so that's not bad! Especially since a lot of the eggs were 'first eggs' from my golden and rosettas.

Hi!
Yes that is definitly a good hatch from what i have heard from hatching quail! Some have told me that you only really have 60% hatch rate if they are shipped and then it really depends on how many males are with the females and if they are all healthy birds. Enjoy your quail chicks!
And out of curiousity, I have 5 adults and 1 maybe 2 chicks.i will keep them separate for a while. How long though? until 4-5 weeks of age? Or should i wait till 6 weeks and fully grown?
Thanks!

Joy
