Day 21 and 4 of 11 eggs have pipped so far. This is my first hatch so I am very excited and have a hard time pulling myself away from the bator window.

But I have a question. One of the larger eggs has a huge pip, it pipped with it's beak then with it's foot which opened up a nice hole. I can see the beak and a whole foot is sticking out over top the head. Is this normal? The chick is doing very well and does not seem to be in distress, it just looks mighty uncomfy with the beak and the foot try to stick out the same space.

First hatch.....goodness that IS exciting. How is the little one doing now?

I haven't had that to happen, but as long as he/she continues along I wouldn't worry.

Keep us updated on the little one and all the rest.

Sounds like a pretty strong little guy, to be kicking like that already.

Good luck! The first time I hatched birds, many years ago, I was insanely overwhelmed by the experience. I still am always in awe of it, but wow – first hatch! That's always exciting.

The kicker finished hatching about 15 min ago, I have one other that has hatched also. These 2 are doing very well, flopping all over trying to get their feet under them

Unfortunately, I had my first ever temp spike and 4 of the eggs had pipped during the night but then died. I am assuming it was related to the temp spike, it spiked to 104.

The remaining 4 eggs have pipped, zipped, and are mostly out but they seem pretty weak. Just laying there very still, the only movement is their breathing. I am watching close and crossing fingers that they make it.

Overall I am very pleased with my results this being my first hatch and using shipped eggs. I have more eggs coming so I can do it all over again....I am now addicted.

I just hope the temp spike didn't kill the turkey and duck eggs that are in there too. I'm waiting until all the chicks are dried off good and can be moved before I candle the turkey and ducks

How long do you think the spike lasted? I had my temps spike crazily yesterday but fortunately we happened to be watching when it happened so the pipped ones made it. Don't know whether that affected the unpipped ones or not.

I have no idea how long it lasted, I it before I went to bed at 10:30 and the temp was at a steady 100. When I got up at 5:30 It was at 103 and thermostat light was on.
