In the last 4 days we were suddenly down to 1 egg a day (from 5).
This morning when hubby went out for morning release he caught the little buggers eating eggs.
It's our 1st experience with this behavior.
Any thoughts?
ps..yes they get oyster shell supplements

Diet can be a factor here, so what are you feeding? How many birds, and how big is their space? Sometimes there's one culprit, who will be the bird with yolk on her face, at least first.
Collect eggs more frequently, and a trail camera would be a nice feature out there too.

Chickens are omnivores.
What feed do they get? Try a high protein feed 18%+. You can also blow out a few eggs and fill will yellow dish soap, the holes and when they poke a hole, they get nasty soap.

We feed really good feed. 5 chickens. They free range in fenced 100'x 25' area daily. Cooped @ night.

Ok..on scratch & peck. I had not heard that before.
And yes, we mix our feeds. We always have and have always had consistent egg laying behavior. The "egg eating" is a new behavior.

I saw using a paint tray in the bottom of the nest, with a lid over part of it so the egg rolls away and out of sight.I would assume there are several models of roll away nests.
Or you might try pin less peepers. You need to get this stopped right away.
