I have 26 backyard chooks .they are free roaming they are fed on layer pellets and fresh vegetables we grow for them, The problem is we have some very skinny chooks. I have separated them and feed them independently . they appear to be eating well. So I think they may have worms. what is the best way of treating them

The best way involves knowing what type of worms they have. Could you have a vet just run a fecal test to determine that? Wormers can be hard on birds and if they are given the wrong treatment for what they have, they suffer and still don't improve. Have you checked them well for mites and lice, due to blood loss, they are debilitating as well.

Do you have any birds that are bullying them away from the feed dish? It's a common occurrence when they are at the bottom of the pecking order. They can literally starve over time.

Are they laying eggs? If not the extra calcium in layer feed can be overtaxing their kidneys. You may also want to post in detail at "emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures," thread.

Valbazen and Safeguard are both very safe, effective wormers to use on chickens of all ages, except when they are molting. One dose of Valbazen will kill all worms that chickens can have. Safeguard will kill all known worms also, but must be given 5 days in a row.
