Thin Collie (pic added)

Here is a list of pet foods that have been recalled in the last year or so. All foods listed in red have had some sort of recall. Many were involved in the Menu foods and American Nutrition recalls of last year. Others have been recalled for other reasons. This list is invaluable to me. I consult it before I purchase any pet food. It was last updated in March of 2008.

It also contains a partial list of who manufacturers for whom. A list that was very hard to create because most pet food manufacturers don't want you to know where their products come from. Many of the companies sued this website to have their info removed from the list under proprietary confidentiality.

I've used Kongs for years with excellent results for my Great Dane, who finds trouble...she's really smart, and gets bored easily. Anyhow, I buy low-fat natural peanut butter and spread it on the walls of the Kong, then freeze. Takes them longer to lick it out.

Ollie is one goreous dog! He is certainly a sable collie with white factor written all over him. I would call him a sable marked white collie. I love white collies but so far and few in between! I can bet he got some Parader in his background but there is some white collies that are famous. I can not remember off hand what they are. If he was not neutered, as for breeding, you would have to get some white factored or white collies grump (excuse me but word is not degrading) and get some white puppies. I like the sable marked white collies the best and the blue merle marked next. Tri marked white collies were rather odd.

Do you happen to have his pedigree? I love to see whats in his pedigree...its like a who's who in the background!

Didn't read all of the replies, so sorry if I repeat something. If he is not eating well and is thin, I would be especially concerned about a medical problem.

I know you said he has been to the vet. Did he have any bloodwork run? Some dogs can have a chronic low level pancreatitis. There is also Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, and you wouldn't be able to diagnose/rule-out either without blood work. And if his pancreas is not happy, feeding him a bunch of fat will only make it worse. How are his stools?

No, I don't have any paperwork for him, and the lady who gave him to me had no background information except that he was given up to a collie rescue... long story. I have often wondered if maybe he is a cull from someone's breeding program. He has so many good qualities but has an undershot jaw (overbite). That's one of the many
reasons I had him neutered. He also has some behaviors of a dog who has been crated and stressed a lot. No bloodwork was done to check his pancreas, but I will suggest it to the vet. His stools are good.
Thanks again.. your suggestions are great.

At any case, enjoy him and keep pictures coming of him! He is sure eye candy!

So glad he was neutered, overbite and underbite jaws are so common in collies in the pet industry and certain bloodlines. Shelties are the worse!

Keep us posted!
