Thin egg

Hello everyone,
one of my ducks layed her first egg 6 days ago and today she has layed one that the shell was pepper thin and had split in half. Is this normal since it’s her 4th egg or is she low in calcium? I
Ny sujestions will help!
Sounds like it could be low calcium
Do you supply Crushed oyster shells on the side ?
Even if they are on layer feed the crushed oyster shells are important
My girls eat them as needed and the bowl is out morning till lockdown as I don’t supply water in my coop at night
But want ti add I did have one new layer last year have a few soft shelled eggs even with the crushed oyster shells
she did get her system correct but I did have durvet calcium here to give her when things were like this
1lm over treat or through syringe once a day

Hi, I am planning to get oyster shells today.
I hatched my ducklings last year and she is the first layer out of my females so I didn’t offer them but definitely will now 🙂
Also She has made a nest with 4 eggs in wich I know arnt fertile in less my boy mallard fancied her but I think that is unlikely as the mallards would have prefers the female mallards?
should I leave her sitting on these eggs that arnt going to hatch?
or should I remove them?
thankyou Xx

p.s. Even if the eggs where fertile I put her away at night so they definitely won’t have been developing as she isn’t on them half the time 🥚

I would remove the eggs each day
This will stop her from sitting on a nest
Boys don’t care what breed they mate they love all girls 😆
Because you haven’t been supplementing crushed oyster shells and she is laying thin eggs I would give her a dose of calcium to get her extra
It’s durvet calcium
1ml over a treat or through syringe once a day ( I would do this for a few days ) just to build her up
This is used when a bird is really low on calcium or egg bound
It’s not something you give everyday normally
I keep a bowl ful of crushed oyster shells and my girls eat as they need
Sometimes the boys eat a little as well
I believe yoy can buy this at TS or Amazon

I used calcium citrate pills from Walmart and crush them up. They have 600mg of calcium which is close to what your bottle says. I also use calcium gluconate which is a liquid but since I do not understand metric I don't know how to compare that to what you bought. It says it has "Calcium ... 1069 mEq".
