I am so worried about one of my hens. She layed an egg from the roost that has a thin membrane for a shell, like a balloon. Worse, there was blood on the egg. Does anyone have experience with this?

I've not had any experience with it, but i have read in several places that the blood on the egg could be because of mites... They get in the vent and make her bleed, then the cuts scab up, and when her vent stretches to release the egg, the scab breaks. I don't know about the ballon part.... I've given you my knowledge, And i wish you the best...

Check her for mites/lice if there are not then she had a blood vessel break along her tract, keep an eye on her once in a while this will happen. What are you feeding them does she have access to oyster shell or crushed egg shells the soft shell could be a lack of calcium. This might only happen this time just keep and eye on her and see how she is doing.
