Things I've learned on the incubating thread! A funny/personal observation.

Yup NN aracuana ee...She's a rather homely girl....but she's got a great disposition and like two or three tuft feathers sticking out each cheek....lol She hatched from a green egg too.
Wow, that sounds like quite an interesting combination. Especially if you say it like we do down here. "Nekkid"
Just makes it sound dirtier, somehow

Araucanas lay the blue eggs, right?

The chicks at Murray Mcmurray "have some Araucana and some Ameraucana blood mixed" but are supposed to lay nicely colored eggs. Is this mix what you were referring to scflock? And should I avoid these chicks?

That's the only way way to say it isn't it???? lol

That is what is considered an ee.

McMurray, like other hatcheries, sell impure lines. They are fine for a backyard flock but you will not find "pure Araucana" or "pure Ameraucana" there. The mixes crossed with white egg layers like brown or white leghorn will be smaller, more active, and good layers of usually blue or blue tinted eggs. The mixes crossed with partridge rocks will lay greenish eggs and are not as prolific. These are common crosses as the offspring "look like" Ameraucana, with chipmunk striped chicks and partridge colored hens. But you will also find a mix of gold, cream, black, brown and other colors, indicating that these are mixes with other chickens. They are quiet and shy compared to my production reds, and lay about 2/3 the amount of eggs.
