Things you've learned while building your coop...

Glad I live in New England!!

I've learned that I can figure things out and build things myself. Who knew?

I've built a summer coop/run, a tractor, and I'm almost finished a winter coop/run, all without the use of power tools other than an electric drill/screwdriver.

Using a hand saw is harder than using a power one, and the cuts I'm making aren't terribly straight or exact, but I've still got all my fingers.

Use agressive/longer screws when building tractors. Moving them every day puts a lot of stress into tractor.

Make sure you have plenty of tolerance between movable panels because the wood will sweal and they will not come off after it rains.

It will take longer to finish then you think.

Find a friend with an rough finish nail gun with air compressor. This thing is sweet!!

Okay here's one I thought of today: painted the coop a nice sunny yellow color. Looks great EXCEPT all around the roost and dropping board! Big squirty splotches on the edges and on the wall behind the roost. I should have painted all those areas POOP BROWN. That's a project for next summer when it's warmer--repaint dropping board and roosts, figure out how to keep poop off the wall behind the roost! or at least make it look not so gross.....

these are some great ideas... I am gathering information and adjusting my plans as they go. As it stands now my coop plans have changed so the furure extension will be easier to manage...
