Or you with a couple of hinges, and plywood you could make your own lid. I've seen this in the bird room at a pet store before.

I just got rid of an old toilet seat because I couldn't think of any way to incorporate it in the coop I'm building that wouldn't prove to my neighbors that I really am nuts!

if you spent alot of time, money and thought on it they won't use it!
dang roost, 4 hours and they start sleeping on top of the nest box

I am still crazy, and looking for another excuse to build another coop, but seriously, I never use a plan or even think in advance on what I am going to do, I think that's what makes the job so funny

This is a great thread. I'm going to start building my coop next weekend (or DH is anyway LOL) I suddenly went from two chicks to seven chicks. 4 different breeds, so I think I need to make my coop a bit biger.

It's 6 foot tall 3 feet wide with a run that 5 feet long the coop is 3 foot by 3 foot. Of course that was for my two maybe three chicks... now I have seven. @_@ time to redo the plans again.

There are some great ideas here, but I have a question... What is a poop board. Is it something that sits on the floor of the coop?

I have a poop pit right now. When I build my next coop it will have poop catch pans under the roosts.

To add electric to a coop we simply ran non-metallic conduit to the coop (plastic). It is cheap, easy to cut, and connections are made with glue. It is available at most any building supply house.

I used 1" so it would be easy to pull a wire through it once finished.

The conduit is rated for direct burial or may be left on top of the ground if you choose to trip over it.

Congratulations -- you've caught the chicken addiction bug! When you redo the plans, plan for more than seven chicks. Many, many more. It's all good.​
