Think my hen has gapeworms, but also has roundworms....Safeguard question

Here is the dosing info for Tylan 50 and 200 (Tylosin 50mg/ml and 200mg/ml). I'll post the rest of the info later.

oh my! thank you sooo much!!! you are such a wonderful help! i had to give tylan to a different chicken a few months back. I'm planning on giving .5ml (the tylan 50) once daily (injected sub-cutaneously) for 5-7 days (that was told to me by someone else when i posted asking for help months back). but by looking at this tylan info you posted looks like i should be doing it at least 2x a day? (i tried looking in the link you gave, but it looks like for chickens it only describes using it in as a drink...i'm currently downloading the book so that way i don't have to turn my head to the side to see if i can read anything else about it)

I haven't used Tylan yet, so I haven't researched it at all and don't know when/if one would give it more than once a day.

Hi,
wondering what happened to your gaping hen? I have one with the exact same symptoms. She has been wheezing and stretching her neck out for about a week or so and seems to get worse when she exerts herself. I just brought her in to see if she got better if I made her rest a bit. No other symptoms except for an occasional cough.

Hi!

I brought my girl in, Treated her for the worms with the safeguard (since it took care of the round and gape worms). I found dead round worms in her stool, but she was still gaping, and not eating or drinking I started injecting Tylan in the back of the neck. I dosed her once a week for a week straight. around the 4th or 5th dose, she suddenly started moving around more, drinking and eating with less gaping. By the 7th injection, she was acting like a normal chicken (I had her in the house the whole time), eating, scratching her food EVERYWHERE...lol! and drinking. I kept her in an extra two days to make sure she was fine and no sudden return of her symptoms. And she didn't.

I thought I was going to lose her - she looked soooo bad....I was crying because I felt like I was failing her - but now, she's 100%, running around back with her flockmates and acting like nothing ever happened.

Good luck with your girl!!

Thanks! I appreciate it. Now I can focus less on the worms and focus more on the Tylan.
