Disaster
yesterday was the hottest day this year - 87* and we think the heat caused us to loose a clutch of BR turk's.
we thought yesterday was supposed to be her hatch dates so we kept checking turkey hen#1- who was doing so great. well nothing all day so when we went out in the evening we found that she had left her nest, climbed over the fence (!!!!?!?!) and had crawled in with turkey hen #2. we dont know how long the eggs were left to cool - even tho it was so hot we dont think it was warm enough to keep them viable.
the worst was when we checked the nest - evidently one of the eggs was bad and broke or exploded. ick.
we put half the clean eggs in the brooder, cleaned out then remade her nest and put her back (she sat down), and the rest were covered with the ick. ick.
so nothing to report this morning but we are pretty sure we lost that clutch. unless anyone has any better ideas we are going to give her a couple days on them them take them out from under her.
ugh - just gutting.
