Thinking about getting a vacuum..what are your thoughts?

My friend has hardwood and she bout this. It's a Broom Vac. She loves it! Says it works great.

My Dyson is awesome. I love the long hose so I can clean where I can't reach, it's bagless so I don't have that mess. I can suck up things I want to keep too, like when my cat knocked over a bag of marbles and I wanted to fish them out from behind the entertainment center, I just vacuumed them up and poured them back into the bowl they go in.

It does have a lot of suction so I have to be careful about how I vacuum throw rugs but as long as I do it right there is no problems.

It was expensive but I use it almost every day and it has been low (almost no) maintenance and completely hassle free so for me the $ was well spent.
