Hi, we are thinking about getting geese, know very little about them. Here in Belize, we will not have a choice of breeds, will be "just Geese".

We already have chickens and goats.

Any advice on sarting off with geese would be helpful.

Housing , feeding, laying, breeding, all the usual stuff.

Thanks.

Sorry no one posted. I am a newbie but I sure do love my geese. I hatched out 2 african greys and just purchased 2 mated pairs. They are the most loving of all my birds.
I have chickens and ducks, but the geese are the best. Go for it.

Theres lots of info on line...just google the topics you are interested in. The Feathersite has 1000's of links.
See my website's link page (scroll down to the bottom half) and raising waterfowl tip page.
Geese are delightful!

Thanks everyone, will follow up on all the leads.

We are also going to get rabbits, so I am busy busy busy with chickens, goats, possibly geese and definately rabbits.

I like my geese (pilgrims) but they are pooping machines! They like to forage a lot so feed will not cost much. I've also read (and I believe this) that you should NOT feed them by hand. That makes them become nippers. Just a few tidbits. You will learn more from others experience. Remember, we all experience different things so you will read alot of opinions.

If you get geese-Remember they need special water fowl food not just chick starter. If you use chick starter non medicated and you will have to supplement it w lots of fresh greens. Raise them close to you so they will love and protect you. I have my first pair of Africans. The feed I got for mine is Mazuri by purina-water fowl starter now they will go on to the maintance. The starter is tiny pellets that float, not a powder like some chick starters. I also started my ducks on this-they love it..Yes geese do poop a lot-good fertilizer for the grass HA!
