Thinking about getting guineas...

If I want them to grow a bigger flock what r the best egg produce guineas what r the best laying guineas and what r the best meat gunieas

Once you pluck away the feathers they're all the same.

Actually the Jumbo or French guineas are a bigger, heavier bird that is raised for meat production. The rest of the helmeted varieties while varying in colors are pretty much the same. I have found Coral Blue guineas to be the most aggressive of the different colors that I have had and the Pearl Grays have been the least aggressive of the varieties that I have had.

Sure, but 99% of the time people on here are talking about helmeted guineas, not French. I always assumed this was because the French variety is more expensive but I just looked at keet prices and I guess not. I suppose they would be the best meat variety, based on size alone, but I don't know about layers. Perhaps their eggs are bigger as well but I don't know if productivity differs.

You and I are both in the same boat as far as knowing whether the French lay bigger eggs or whether they lay at the same rate. What I do know that is barring any broodiness the helmeted guineas I have lay one egg every day once they get started going in the spring and taper off in the fall when they are quitting.

Maybe I should get some French guineas to compare. Then again, they would be a few months difference in age so not a direct comparison. I got a hatchery choice mix of guineas and so far some are quite large so I sort of wonder if they are French but I doubt it.

In my experience French guineas lay as well, and start laying sooner but are far more prone to ailment and accident.
