Thinking about getting some ducks...would like some opinions.

Those images are disgusting to me - spiders of any size are sinister and there should be a public health warning before anyone is exposed to images of the ghastly beings - I am a phobic ( as you can probably tell ) and I cannot even turn a page in a magazine if an image of a spider is there... I am physically sick if I see one, I have even asked a friend to open my garage doors if an arachnid is in the vicinity... I would rather have a rat or snake in my house than a spider!!!!!

Uggghhhhhhhh!!!!!

Thank goodness for chickens that will hunt down and eat the arachnids

Suzie

p.s. I will not sleep well tonight knowing that spiders are around!

I agree.....back to ducks.........
Pro:
If you are hand raising them they will run and hide their heads under your arms when they get scared if you are sitting on the ground near them. Ours reminded me of little ostriches when they got frightened. Quick there is an arm pit HIDE!

Can we talk about something else?
PLEASE????
I'm EXTREMLY phobic!

Sorry to get back to the spider subject...

The one my duck ate was a baby, about 1/2 the size as what's on the picture.

We had a huge one in our house a few years back, it was about 3 times the size of the ones in the pic, my aunty had to come over and help catch it, with a saucepan and pool net.We had a look at the clock and all we could see were these big legs coming out either side. The spider was so big it couldn't even fit behind the clock! And this was an on the wall proper round clock.

As for everone's phobia with spiders, it's only redbacks I hate... messiest webs ever, but, apparenty there is a method to their madness, when an ant walks by it gets plucked out the air with the strands of web on the ground. Clever. I can't stand anymore then 3 ants, I start shaking and freak out, making me nervous just thinking out them.

Also avoiding the poultry subject, when I moved the g-pig cage, when I came outside to check on the animals, I saw the g-pig jumping, I thought he was popcorning, what g-pigs do when they're very happy, so I went out there and found him covered in ants, latching on to his feet, face and butt.

Ditto, ditto, ditto to all the good posts on duck pro and cons. To me, the pros vastly outweigh the cons and since I have a large yard in which they free range and a spring fed pond they can swim on and drink from I don't have any major poo issues. Do have to keep the coop cleaned though I have started using the packed bedding option and not cleaning as often.

And they are just really neat to have around to watch and for company. I am retired so I get to watch and interact with my ducks most anytime I want to. Wouldn't trade them for anything! (Think I might have almost as many photos of my ducks as I do of my grandkids!)
